Frequently Asked Questions

  • I'm new to all this. Where can i find out more about skating, lessons, levels and the pathways in skating?
There is a lot of information on the NISA website as well as the Planet Ice Basingstoke website: to make life easier, the club has produced a useful document that you can download here that covers various skating levels and how to learn/achieve them.
BISC has adapted a "Parent's guide to Skating" from an older NISA document: it's had a couple of sections updated with more current advice to reflect the changes in scoring, boot tech, safeguarding and coaching.  Although over a decade old, the main advice inside is still highly relevant.
We have also created a "skating pathway" chart below that shows how all the levels fit together and where our club fits in, complementing at every stage. Download a PDF here of the chart.

  • What are your club ice classes?
See our club ice page for more details on the content. Put simply, they are a great way to enhance current skills or compliment existing formal instruction. They are not a Learn to Skate course. Planet Ice Basingstoke runs Skate Excellence courses for beginners and you can also learn 1-1 from one of the coaches listed on our website.
  • What level am I/is my child at?/What proof do I need to bring to prove my level?
There are a number of different types you can bring provide evidence of level.
